During my "lovely" commute home tonight experiencing far too many people far too eager to get home (aka driving like maniacs) I wondered if people back in the day used to experience the same type of phenomena? What is it about that extra 5 mins (or maybe even 10 if you cut off the other fast, maniac people) that gets everyone so fired up when driving?
So my thought, and call me crazy, was what if we all reverted back to the horse and carriage to commute to work? How in the world would you be able to ZOOOOM around Mrs. Marple or that family of four if all you could go was 15MPH? Well my guess is that you wouldn't, because you'd feel all awkward trying to pass them up and you'd have to experience those awkward MINUTES (instead of milliseconds) of "flying" by them in order to pass, and you might even have to say "Hi Mrs. Marple... top of the mornin'.... Pa's doing well... I'd love some cookies, but I'm in a hurry and I need to be just a few carriages in front of you".... Now that's just rude!
But in all honesty, I know people want to get home so I decided that if I was fortunate enough to make it home 10 minutes early, here is how I'd spend them:
1. Opening a couple pieces of mail
2. Putting all the dishes into the sink from breakfast earlier that day
3. Checking my email
4. Blow my nose
5. And that's about it, 10 minutes doesn't really buy me a lot....
So there you have it people, drive like a crazy person and get to blow your nose!
